Dear Members of the Wilmington Community,

It is my pleasure to announce that Ms. Christine Elliott has accepted my offer to become the next Assistant

Superintendent for Curriculum & Staff Development, effective July 1, 2020.
Ms. Elliott has over 25 years of public education experience having served as a teacher and educational leader at the elementary level. Although she began her career as a reading teacher in Londonderry, New Hampshire, she has spent the rest of her career serving the Tri‐Town School Union (Boxford, Middleton and Topsfield) in a variety of roles that have included serving as both a Reading Specialist and an English Language Arts and Social Studies Instructional Support Specialist. Since 2010, Ms. Elliott has served as the Director of Curriculum in Tri‐Town where she has lead the ongoing planning, implementation, development and evaluation of the district’s elementary instructional program for six (6) elementary schools.

Ms. Elliott’s work in this important role has included overseeing a team of instructional coaches and supporting building principals and teachers. Highlights of other facets of her work include the oversight of the induction and mentoring program and training evaluators and educators in the evaluation model. She has also led the implementation of a standards‐based report card, overseen the bullying prevention program and she helped guide the reading and writing curriculum development in the district.

The District received over 40 applications and invited 11 candidates for initial interviews before advancing four semi‐finalists for further consideration, including Ms. Elliott. The search process included a virtual site visit to Wilmington where she spent the better portion of a day meeting staff, district leaders and members of the community. Members of the site visit committee included representation from the Central Office Leadership Team as well as staff and parent representatives who participated in a virtual site visit with members of the Tri‐Town School Union community.

Feedback gathered throughout the process identified Ms. Elliott as an educational leader who believes in the importance of leading by example and is never hesitant to help guide all parts related to curriculum and instruction. Her colleagues described her as someone who is able to develop both a longer‐term “big picture” vision while also being keenly able to balance the need of attending to the finer details essential to developing and implementing a plan. She continuously seeks to inform her decision‐making based upon data and feedback and, ultimately, is committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of student equity and advancement.

Ms. Elliott has also served as Adjunct Professor at The University of New England (Instructional Leadership), Merrimack College (Reading Strategies and Interventions) and at Salem State College (Implementing a Balanced Reading Model). She holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts (Lowell) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Bridgewater State College
